With reference to my Despatch

No. 137 of the 21st. instant concerning the transfer of

Mr. P N. H. Jones to be Director of Public Works in the

Gold Coast, and in reply to Your Lordship's telegram of the

19th. instant enquiring whether I wished his successor

appointed as Assistant Director of Public Works or whether

I recommended filling the vacancy by promotion in the

Colony and appointing a new Executive Engineer, I have the

honour to forward for Your Lordship's information the on-

-closed copy of a letter addressed to me by the senior

officers of the Public Works Department, dated the 18th.

Works, dated the 19th. instant and a copy of the reply

which I directed the Colonial Secretary to address to the

signatories of the letter of the 18th. instant.
